βHow you love yourself is how you teach others to love you.β βRupi KaurΒ
When you hear the word – self-love – what instantly comes to your mind? π€
Ok, I’ll admit that when I initially heard about the practice of self-love I thought it just some cheesy topic , no wonder at that time i was having a hard time loving myself (but now I know better π). I also thought it meant just self-care i.e. those activities we do to ‘spoil’ ourselves. π e.g. treating oneself to nice outings, spa visit, vacay, etc. But my perspective about it has changed .π
I’ve learnt that self-love isn’t just self-care. In fact, according to psychologists, self-care is only 1 out of the 4 components of self-love. (I share about all 4 in this video).
Nonetheless, self-love is really very essential for our well being π; it doesn’t mean being selfish but loving yourself so much that you’ve got enough love to share with others . βοΈ Come to think about it, it’s hard to give what you don’t have ( right? π€) It’s like the typical oxygen mask situation on the plane where you’re instructed to put on your own mask before helping someone else put on theirs .
Back to self-love…
Here are some examples of self-love in action:
– accepting yourself even when others reject/turn you down hug π«
– loving yourself for who you are (forgetting about the accolades or failures) even when people are hating on you β€οΈ
– believing in your worth/value even when others don’t
– forgiving yourself even when someone else won’t π
– being kind and compassionate to yourself even when others won’t π€
– owning your flaws, weaknesses even when other write you off coz of those π
– saying ‘no’ to certain things so you can say ‘yes’ to those things that matter most to you and your purpose π―
Know yourself. Accept yourself. Love yourself. Value yourself. Appreciate yourself. Be yourself. β – Franklin H. EzenwaΒ
It doesn’t mean being selfish but focusing on you first so you have the capacity and ability to extend that love to the world around you. β€οΈπ
