“You can’t make everybody happy; you’re not Nutella…” π
Have you ever been in a place where you felt you had to please EVERYBODY(people you know and those you dont even know) and to make EVERYONE happy and like you? π
Perhaps you tried that for a long time and no matter what you did it just didn’t work?
If you can relate to that , you’re not alone. I know how that feels. πͺ
I recall a time in my life when I tried to do just that. I tried so had to please everyone and to make them happy and like me . At that time I was struggling with low self-esteem and serious self-doubt. So I thought that the fix was to get all the approval/permission I could get from other people. So I tried so so hard but to no avail sad π’ . Sad part was that the more I tried, the more I felt I was becoming less of who I truly was at my core. π
Later on I heard someone say that you can’t please everyone because you are not Nutella (I am not sure where that came from originally but it was hilarious π and it stuck to me like forever. Maybe because I am a chocolate π«lover π ) .
Since then I’ve come to accept the truth that I can’t please everyone and make everyone happy and like me. And that shouldn’t be my focus. I’ve learnt to focus instead of pleasing God as He’s the Creator, the giver of life and everything and the One I’ll give account of my life to. Also, learnt to focus my energy on those I’ve been called to serve and impact not on the critics/cynics.
Holding onto this truth has been liberating for me π
So, if you feel that you need to please everybody and make everybody happy and like you, I invite you to reconsider that π. You may just find liberation if you picked up and new truth .
To saying ‘no’ to people pleasing !!
