“It’s the repetition of affirmations that leads to belief. Once that belief becomes a deep conviction things begin to happen.” ~~ Muhammed Ali
What it is
Has there been times in your life when you felt beat down and discouraged, but then after someone spoke to you either via a motivational message or in-person, you received clarity and encouragement? Now what if instead of someone speaking those encouraging and powerful words to you, you actually speak them to yourself… in a nutshell that’s what affirmation entails.
Simply put, when you do affirmations, you are basically speaking uplifting, exciting and empowering words to yourself. You do this to condition and focus your mind on what you want to attract to your life. It’s also a way of being accountable to yourself. You’ve probably heard the saying that there’s power in the tongue/spoken words – right? That principle holds true via the affirmation.
So be careful what you speak out loud.
How it works
Affirmation is a way to ‘trick’ the subconscious mind, the mental driver, to action. The techniques entail writing down your desires/goals then repeatedly proclaiming them often enough till they get deeply ingrained into the subconscious mind. The subconscious mind, which comprises a huge portion of the brain, then works tirelessly to unite your behaviors with your emotionalized thoughts and desires. That way you’re focusing on those desires and as they say, what you focus on expands.
So, as you affirm what you want – not what you don’t want – you’ll be attracting your dreams and goals closer and closer, leaving you one action away from them.
The 3 ‘P’ of a powerful affirmation
For affirmations to be effective, it would comply with the 3 ‘P‘s. They should be:
- Positive,
- Personal
- Present
Adding emotion and conviction to your affirmations revs up the effect it has on your subconscious mind and hence the outcome you see in your life as long as you take the required actions.
Writing your affirmations
In their book, “Success through a Positive Mental Attitude”, Napoleon Hill and W. Clement Stone recommend a daily dose of positive affirmation which goes like this –
“I feel healthy! I feel happy! I feel terrific!”
(Notice that these affirmations obey the 3 ‘P’s rule.)
Writing your affirmations is simple. The more personal and meaningful it is to you the more powerful its effect. For that reason, you want to create your affirmations based on your current desires and goals. For example, if you’re struggling with low self-esteem/self-love, an affirmation as simply as
“I like myself”
is effective enough to gradually raise your self-esteem. Or if you’re you feel skittish about a presentation you’ll be delivering soon, you can use the affirmation –
‘I can do this’
to calm your nerve before the occasion.
You get the point?
If you’re looking to get committed to your success then here’re some affirmations to repeat. I use this as well as some others which I formulated and have been seeing positive outcome.
To wrap up, saying affirmations is a powerful technique to raise your confidence, focus on your goals and attract your dreams.
To your awesome life!
